The life cycle of a honey bee
The Life Cycle Of A Honey Bee
Introduction:
The honey bee is one of the two most known bee species, having the iconic yellow and black striped pattern, and a stinger, which actually is barbed.
Bees are also the most known pollinator. Pollinators have a crucial role in the ecosystem. They pollinate flowering plants to make food such as honey, bee bread, and royal jelly, which also makes food for us.
Like other insects they go through a full metamorphosis, and it all starts with a pregnant queen honey bee.
Eggs
A queen bee can lay 2500 eggs, which looks like a grain of rice, and 175000-200000 eggs a year, the queen lays them in separate sections.
It takes them 4 days to hatch, and after they hatch the larva comes out.
Larva
The larva comes out of the egg, and they get to be fed by the worker bees, they get fed a mixture of honey and royal jelly. If One of the larvae eats more than other larvae it could indicate that it is a queen honey bee larvae.
A fertilised larvae, means it’s a worker bee, or a queen bee (female). If it isn’t fertilised larvae, it means it’s a drone (male). It takes 9 days to become a pupa.
Pupa
The pupa gets sealed by wax, so it will be able to grow the necessary parts it needs, such as legs, antennae, and the wings . It takes 10-25 days to finally finish the metamorphosis as they chew out the wax.
Adult
A young adult honey bee chews its way out and is ready to do its job, as a queen, worker bee, or a drone in the hive.
Drones are kicked out or killed in the winter, because they have only one use, mating with the queen. If they don’t mate before winter, they are useless, and it’s not mating season.
It takes 18-28 days to finish the metamorphosis.
The Life Span
Drones live for 55 days, Workers live for 5-6 weeks, and Queens live for 3-6 years
That’s all the information for now. I hope you have learnt the life cycle of the honey bee.
The lattice method.
The lattice method is my personal favorite method so far, being easy to learn and its so straightfoward. It’s also used to edge flower bed, or as a surround for waste cans or as a skirting to hide unslightly area under a deck or a porch. The lattice is useful for providing some degree of privacy to a yard or garden, while still allowing light to enter and air to circulate.
Synonyms
Synonyms are words that have same definition but sounds like a different word. Did you know the inverse version of Synonyms are Antonyms, Antonyms are opposite meaning of another word. Synonyms are also used to make comon words sound interesting, for example you can make the words saw, went and smile into, examine, proseed, and beam.
